THE COMIC BOOK COMPANY THAT GOT SAVED

How a secular comic book media company made the decision to risk it all to follow Jesus.

Atlanta, GA - June 26, 2023

We sometimes hear of an individual having a religious experience – but Atlanta, GA based Terminus Media is a creative company that has been born again. For almost 20 years, Terminus Media has published mainstream comic books, but three years ago made the decision to focus on family-friendly and faith-based content.

So what caused this abrupt change in direction? Terminus Media CEO Mark Stancil explains in a recent interview on The Eric Metaxas Show, “The Spirit of the Lord came in like a flood! Terminus had been a secular comic book company until 2020. At the very beginning of the pandemic, I reflected on my life and realized what I was publishing didn’t feel right. I began to think and pray about what my personal goals and the company’s goals moving forward should be.”

It seems Mark was not alone in his desire to work on faith based projects. “I was on a call with Dr. Barron Bell (Professor at Liberty University and Creative Director at Terminus) and we both were frustrated with the status quo. He is a man of faith and we both said almost simultaneously that the only projects we had any interest in was work that glorified God and built the Kingdom of God.” He told me about an idea he had inspired by the book of 1 Saumel called Dominion. I told him about an idea I had about spiritual warfare called: Ascension. It was like a light came on and our path forward became clear.” The two were later joined by writer Daniel Hancock who’s talent for biblical storytelling fit perfectly with the company’s newfound calling to create excellent work for the kingdom.

The team knew that they were in a spiritual war with mainstream entertainment. “Superman used to fight for Truth, Justice and the American way.” Mark continued, “Now we can’t say that. We wanted to create content that can go toe to toe with mainstream media without compromising our Christian worldview.”

It hasn’t been all sunshine and angelic choirs though. “Some folks didn’t like the change.” Mark continued “When Terminus began moving in a faith based direction some collaborators made the decision to part ways with us. We lost significant investments of time and money. The change was not easy, but it was worth it.”

DOMINION- Fall of the House of Saul was the first book out of the gate. With the fifth of seven chapters releasing soon, Mark makes clear that “the Spirit of God is the wind in our sails and our directional compass.” Created by Dr. Barron Bell and written by Daniel Hancock, DOMINION is an allegory of the life of King Saul in the Bible. Bell states, “In our version, Saul is a king spiraling into madness as a Philistine invasion threatens to destroy the intergalactic kingdom. It’s all very Shakespearan.” In fact, many fans describe DOMINION as Star Wars meets Narnia! In each 100+ page graphic novel, adults and kids are transported into a world of talking animals, spaceships and giant robots. Each book has a study guide leading the reader back to the bible.

While the books are biblically-based, Terminus aims to create great stories that appeal to all. “We pride ourselves in a top quality product. Every day is better than the day before working in this way, working with the Spirit. Our work is our worship and we want to share that with the world.”
