A NOTE FROM DR. BARRON BELL
DOMINION is the culmination of a journey that started in a darkened movie theater in the year 1977. As a young boy my eyes and ears were dazzled when that iconic first note of John Williams’s score blared and bright yellow words “the Star Wars” scrolled from the bottom to the top of the screen. I didn’t know it then, but my little six-year-old mind didn’t stand a chance. Star Wars was my introduction to sci-fi, and I never turned back.
My further descent into nerd culture continued on a fateful day a few years later when my eldest brother brought home a suitcase full of X-Men (Silvestri era) comics. I was introduced to dynamic storytelling through art. At that moment, I knew I wanted to be a comic book artist when I grew up.
After becoming a Christian at the end of high school, I developed a passion for Biblical history. I could visualize the narrative text in the books of Samuel and Kings. I was also fascinated by The words of C. S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and their ability to craft epic stories using Biblical inspiration.
In recent days I have noticed what I call a race to the bottom. The portrayal of heroes in comics, movies, and television just keeps getting darker. My goal for DOMINION is to present biblical truths in a new, fresh way and to depict truly heroic characters that will inspire a new generation of comic book readers.
